Last night, My Beloved and I watched "In the Loop". I can't recall a movie that made me laugh more. The jokes come so fast that I missed half of them because I couldn't hear over my own guffawing.
As it turns out, the only thing that hurts more after abdominal surgery than laughing is sneezing. Today, I am paying the price for last nights revelry with a case of back spasms that has brought me to my knees more than once. I bet it's funny to watch. I move about merrily and then suddenly BLAMMO! I am gasping with tears in my eyes. This would be the antithesis of laughter. I cannot predict the movement that will set it off. I cannot will myself to relax during the paroxysms of agony.
I've learned a lot about the kinds of pain and discomfort that some people live with on a daily basis. Not that I think I ever took my health for granted, but this certainly inspires me to do more with it - tri anyone? - once I have it back.
