The rains finally stopped today, and Nature taunted me with sunshine from my office windows.
When I arrived home, psyched up to make the most scrumptious dinner from Cooking Light, My Beloved informed me that our water was brown and that he'd called the Water Authority. Within 1/2 hour, a young man showed up at our door and tested the water for coliform bacteria, turbidity, etc., and assured us that - while the water was completely potable - he would flush the standpipe at the end of the street to be safe. He left, encouraging us to call him again tomorrow if it wasn't cleared.
I live in a country where I have the right to expect clean, potable water. And, what's more, if it doesn't gush freely from the comfort and safety of my own home, I can call someone, at 8-o'clock in the evening, whose job it is to make sure that my right is fulfilled.
