Around mid afternoon today, it will mark exactly fourteen years of our marriage. It feels simultaneously like a really long time and also like no time at all. We are thankful to put #13 behind us, which came with its share of trials. Still, we are grateful for our lessons and do not begrudge putting in our time with Grief and Worry.
For example, on every anniversary, we take a family picture and use our collective fingers to show the camera how many years we are celebrating. This is the first year that Scout will not be in the picture. That, my friends, is going to suck.
What will be wonderful is our planned events: we are going on a date to Ikea (meatball dinner for $2.75 on Tuesdays!), stopping at the AT&T store to get the new iPhone (I dropped my precious 2G for the last time and shattered the glass last week), and then home for presents and a late night surprise, which I'm not going to reveal yet because My Beloved reads this. (that pretty much sums up the balance of our relationship: My Beloved gets <$3 with of Swedish cuisine and I get a $500 gadget. Both of us will be as happy as pigs in mud.)
People marry for every kind of reason. Indeed, we married for the fairy tale and the happy ever after. Here's to true love.
Happy anniversary! It sounds like a lovely plan.
